Are you looking for answers about how to maintain a porcelain tile floor? You've come to the right place. Porcelain is fairly easy to maintain, making it a great choice for high-traffic areas, or places that endure a lot of wear and tear. Kitchens, bathrooms, entryways, hair salons, office entryways: these are all fabulous places to install porcelain tile.

Maintaining porcelain tile floors is as easy as following these basic steps:

  1. Clean loose dirt with a vacuum or soft bristled broom on a daily basis. Build up of debris over time can wear and tear the top surface of the tile, so make sure you keep the area clean.
  2. Clean up spills immediately with a cloth. Light-colored porcelain can especially stain because of it's mildly porous nature.
  3. Each week, do a deep cleaning with a porcelain-safe cleaner and avoid using abrasives or scrubbers on your porcelain floor.

Cleaners that work with porcelain:

  • Warm water
  • Vinegar
  • All-purpose cleaner
  • Dilluted degergent

Cleaners that DO NOT work with porcelain:

  • Bleach-based cleaners
  • Ammonia
  • Oil-based detergenents, wax, or sealants
  • Cleaners with die (a definite no-no for unsealed tile)

* Always test cleaners on a small area of your porcelain floor before cleaning the entire area. While cleaning, completely rinse all cleaner off of floor.

Regular cleaning and maintenance of your porcelain tile floor will increase the length of time you can enjoy it in your home. In general, perform maintenance checks on your porcelain floor every few months to look for cracks or chips that may need to be repaired, or tiles that may need to be replaced.
